Interfacing the OOPic with the BOT40
Compatibility considerations - when interfacing
OOPic and
OOPic2 chips with the BOT40 Controller Board:
both the original OOPic and new OOPic2 chips may be inserted straight into the
40-pin socket [U1] on the BOT40 controller board, and the OOPic program EEPROM
inserted into the 8-pin socket [U2].
a 20 Mhz crystal should be used for X1.
jumpers J2-J5 are configured for the OOPic chip to control the EEPROM using
cpu pins RA4/RA5.
Programming the OOPic program EEPROM:
For OOPic and OOPic2, the program EEPROM chip can be programmed using
the OOPic Starter Board, and then transferred over to the BOT40 for operation.
The OOPic controller chip itself can be left in the BOT40, as it is not needed during
EEPROM programming.
Alternately, an OOPic programming header can be wired into the prototyping
area of the BOT40 board for on-board programming.
New OOPic II serial Programming
In addition, Savage Innovations will shortly release a new version of the
OOPic2 firmware which supports EEPROM programming via the RS-232 serial port
- this programming mode is directly supported by the BOT40 board.
