OOBOT40 Robot Control Computer
--- robotics and industrial controller board using
the 40-pin OOPic microcontroller chip ---
ORDER INFO

(details) OOBOT40-ASY - OOBOT40 Controller, pre-assembled - $82.95 (includes pcb, parts, and OOPic chip).
(details) OOBOT40-KIT - OOBOT40 Controller, kit form - $64.95 (includes pcb, parts, and OOPic chip).

The OricomTech OOBOT40 Robot Control Computer is designed for controlling small mobile robotic devices and for general industrial-control applications. It uses a 40-pin OOPic microcontroller chip, which is designed especially for robotics applications.

The OOBOT40 is sized to meet mini-sumo specifications. It can be used for a simple bot, but has plenty of expansion capability for growth into a very sophisticated bot - room for multiple-bumper, line-following, fire-fighting, and other sensor circuitry. The board will also mount a regular PIC microcontroller chip, in place of the OOPic, for custom programming.

  • 4 h-bridge circuits for motor drive - 1 Amp/channel
  • 3 additional drive circuits for relays, LEDs, & servos - up to 5A
  • up to 18 digital I/O lines [non-dedicated]
  • up to 7 A/D channels
  • prototyping area
  • 2 headers usable for external I²C devices

Using one of these boards, you can build a complete control computer for about $72 - 90. Typical applications include:

  • small robot controller
  • general industrial controller
  • servo controller
  • motor controller
  • h-bridge motor controlled mini-sumo

The table at right compares features of the Oricom OOBOT40 controller board with the 68HC11-based Handyboard. In general, when using the OOBOT40, you get significantly more signal conditioning and output control capability for significantly less cost. Click here for more info on the Handyboard.

    TECHNICAL INFO

  • Refer to the next page for technical details on the OOBOT40 Controller, plus a motor programming example.

  • See the next page about interfacing and programming OOPic chips with the OOBOT40 Controller Board.

    Power

  • input power for logic: 8 - 15 vdc, up to 1-Amp.
  • power for servos is provided from off-board, via headers, normally 4.8 - 6 vdc at approx 300 mA per connected servo.
  • power for Mosfet loads and h-bridges is provided from off-board, via headers, up to 40v allowable.

    Physical

  • 3.9" x 3.0" (99 x 76 mm), industrial-quality double-sided FR4 pcb with heavy buss traces, plated-through holes, solder masks and silk-screens.
  • mounting hole in each corner (#4 screw).

NOTE - the OOBOT40 Controller Boards are backward compatible with all 40-pin OOPic chips, and
can be purchased without the OOPic, for those having the chip already. See here.
