BOT40 and BOT40-II Controller Boards
--- robotics and industrial controller boards using
40-pin PIC microcontrollers ---

BOT40 Details

--- An easy way to get into PIC Programming and PIC Robotics ---

The OricomTech BOT40 and BOT40-II Controller Boards are designed for controlling small robotic devices and for general industrial-control applications. They use 40-pin PIC microcontrollers, and can interface motors, R/C style servos, analog signals, and other sensor and effector devices. In addition, the boards are easily upgradeable (see below).

BOT40-II Details
[to BOT40-II page]

The controllers can be used for simple bots, but have plenty of expansion capability for growth into sophisticated systems - room for bumper, line-following, fire-fighting, ultrasonics, and other sensor circuitry. The boards will also mount an OOPic chip, and are used in our OOBOT40 Robot Control Computers.

Pre-Programmed Boot-Loader. The PIC chips on the BOT40 Controller Boards are shipped pre-programmed with bootloader software. This makes it easy to start programming the PIC without needing to purchase a separate chip programmer. For more info, see Programming the BOT40 Boards.

FEATURES

The BOT40 and BOT40-II Controller Boards are virtually identical, except that the original BOT40 has H-bridges and high-current drivers, plus room for interfacing 8 R/C style servos, while the new BOT40-II board forgoes the h-bridges and drivers in favor of directly interfacing up to 29 R/C style servos. The new board is specifically designed to support our Bot-Cop Multi-Servo Controller and Walking Machine chips.

The BOT40 Controller Boards are distinquished by having:

  • large prototyping areas
  • high configurability
  • significant amounts of cpu protection built onto the pcbs.

    Typical applications include:

  • small robot controllers
  • general embedded controllers
  • servo controllers
  • motor controllers
  • closed-loop control systems
  • robot walkers
  • motion control and animatronics
  • mini-sumos

Both boards are made to meet mini-sumo size limits.

  • PROGRAMMING

  • See the next page regards software, compilers, and general details about Programming the BOT40 Boards.

  • PIC Compatibility - the boards accommodate the following Microchip controllers, in 40-pin DIP package:
    • 16C74 / 77 / 774
    • 16F74 / 77/ 874 / 877
    • new 18C442 / 452

  • OOPic Compatibility - the OOPic controller drops straight into both BOT40 boards.

  • Basic Atom Compatibility - the Basic Atom Interpreter 40-pin DIP chips plug directly into the BOT40 boards.
  • CPU Upgrade Paths:

  • the BOT40 controllers are designed to not go obsolete in the coming years.
  • first, both controllers allow an easy upgrade path as newer versions of OOPic and other firmware come out in the future; simply replace the 40-pin DIP chip with a newer version.
  • in addition, the boards accept a wide range of regular 40-pin PIC micros, so programmers can develop their own code, if desired.
